Panamarenko, Henri Van Herwegen. Born in Antwerp februari 5th 1940 grewup in the seefhoek, a working-class district in the heart of Antwerp. He wasconsidered as one of the main Belgian sculptures of the 20thcentury. His creations are inspired by flying. His name is a contraction of theAmerican flight company “Pan American Airlines and Company“. He studied at theRoyal academy for fine arts between 1955 and 1960. Meanwhile he wasself-educating himself in science. Which he used in his sculptures.  

In 1968 both Panamarenko and Hugo Heyrman occupied the HendricksConscience square with large ice cubes, demanding that the square be madecar-free.
