Hendrick Conscience was a Belgian writer, a folk writer. People called him “the man who thought the people how to read”. He used artistic texts to educate the people. He was quite the Flemish patriot which is apparent from his most famous work,“The Lion of Flanders.” This piece of work was made into a movie almost a century later by Hugo Claus.
