Gaston was one of the most beloved Antwerp comedians. He was part of the iconic duo, Gaston and Leo. They became acquainted in 1957 in the Billiard Palace where Leo was a musician and Gaston did his famous stand-up acts. In 1984 Gaston plays a lead role in the movie “Heavy boys” (zware jongens). A movie by Robbe De Hert. Near the end of his career he struggled with health problems and planned to make a comeback in comedy. That comeback never came. When he died there was a public ceremony at the St-Andries Church, where many people spoke nice words about Gaston. Among them was Bart de Wever, the mayor of Antwerp.
